Alamosa Mosquito Control District is a fully integrated mosquito management program using conscious economic and enviromentally sensitive practices consisting of surveillance, larvicide, adulticide, and West Nile virus testing. Surveillance is a process of collecting adult mosquitoes in CDC light traps, counting and indentification, as well as testing the mosquitoes for West Nile virus. AMCD collects mosquitoes from the beginning of April through the end of September. Larviciding focuses on inspecting breeding waters and controlling the species while still in the larval stages. Adulticiding includes the control of adult mosquitoes by truck fogging and rural aerial applications.
